Why the old workflow is clumsy
Investors increasingly ask AI tools questions like “where is my portfolio risk?” or “why did my account return change this month?” Without structured and current context, the workflow becomes copying IBKR reports, screenshots, CSV exports or hand-made spreadsheets into every chat.
That is slow, stale and hard to control. Portfolio data also needs clear permission boundaries.
The read-only assistant model
- Create read-only access tokens for external assistants to retrieve necessary portfolio summaries.
- Expose structured data through MCP tools, including holdings, returns, fees, dividends and currency exposure.
- Query account summaries, daily movement, major positions and alerts through Telegram.
- Avoid trading, transfer or write permissions, reducing the risk of AI-driven operational mistakes.
- Revoke tokens when a device, assistant or workflow should no longer have access.
The real differentiation
IBKR is the broker and reporting system. IB Dashboard adds a portfolio data interface for questions, daily briefs, review, explanation and risk alerts. It is designed to complement the broker terminal, not replace it.
